We are a 24 hour search & rescue service to save lives at sea

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

If you're here then you probably already know the story of Paddy's incredible rescue on Sunday 29th May 2016, but here it is again.

So on Sunday 29th May, I took my boys and three dogs on holiday for the first time together.  We had a long journey so decided to get the dogs straight out for a walk and Paddy, my 3 year old Dalmatian, became quite travel sick.  I was readjusting his harness when he managed to slip through my fingers and within a second he was gone over the side of the sheer cliff face below.

With the boys screaming and increasing anxiety from them (they are both autistic) I left them with the other two dogs (also a Dally, Poppy 6 and a Jug, Brynn 2) and went down the cliff after him.  At this point I felt sure I would find his body, there was no way he could survive the 350ft drop.  I managed to get 100ft down a very steep and unsafe cliff face, and managed to catch sight of him in a under hang below me about 20 ft below me on a small ledge around 6 ft deep and 12 ft long.  Not only was he there, he was unharmed!

At this point, I will say I also have a disability and chronic pain from my joints, so everything about this situation was painful and stressful beyond compare.  Once I got back up I contacted the emergency services and explained the situation and asked for assistance.  I sent back my youngest to the caravan with one of the dogs and put him on the phone to my mum while he went o help distract him and keep him calm.

Once I knew help was on the way, I left my eldest with the phone and the other Dally and went back to Paddy.  Little did I realise, this was the worst thing I could have done.  When the coastguard realised I was on the cliff edge they made sure I came back up.  That was heartbreaking leaving Paddy on the cliff edge and the longest 20 minutes of my life started whilst I waited on help.  I sent back my eldest once I knew help was on the way with the other Dally.

Once the coastguard got there I literally collapsed in a heap knowing that help had arrived.  The rescue took three Coastguard teams, Filey, Scarborough and Burniston and RNLI Filey to have a boat in the sea to keep an eye on Paddy from the water.

They managed to rescue Paddy despite the fog rolling in, very windy conditions and darkness descending.  It took them several hours in very dangerous conditions to carry out one the most technical rescues they have ever seen.

I am asking for donations for the RNLI who helped to support the coastguard service to rescue Paddy and bring him home safely to us.  The RNLI relies on donations to keep the service going and played a vital role in the rescue.  You hope you never need to use these services, but when you do need them, they are the most courageous, professional, caring people you have ever met and they literally saved our lives.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
