Story
Hi, I am diabetic, type 2. I was first diagnosed 27 October 2013, the day I should have been running The Great South Run. Instead my sister ran without me, and she and my mum came home to me in an even worse state than they had left me in and I told them I needed help. An out of hours doctor came and immediately requested an ambulance. I spent a week in QA Hospital, Portsmouth being looked after by several lovely medical staff. I cannot remember too much. My sister's holiday was spent at my bedside and my mum split her holiday between my bed and my nan's.
It has taken 3 years to be comfortable with the diagnosis, which was actually adjusted in May 2015 - from Type 1 to Type 2. I have gone from 4 injections a day, to 4 tablets and 1 injection. I am lucky, I am no longer on insulin, but I am still fighting the side effects of wrongly being on it - weight gain. However, I would rather have too much weight and be alive then a risk being taken with my treatment.
I train 3/4 times a week and my strength and health is getting back to where it should be, I know that I am a lucky one, but life is still a struggle. By raising money for Diabetes UK I hope that at least one person benefits.
