Mike Walsh and Tom Cooling Everest The Tumble! · 29 April 2017

We‘re the world‘s leading cancer charity dedicated to saving and improving lives through research. We fund research into the prevention, detection and treatment of more than 200 types of cancer through the work of over 4,000 scientists, doctors and nurses.

Story

We have decided that it would be fun to climb the elevation of Mount Everest (8848m or 29029.87ft) on our bikes in a single day to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

I'm sure you all know someone who has had their life touched by cancer and if you do, you'll know how monumental a task it is to fight it both physically and mentally. We thought the only way of showing our support for those with cancer, or those caring for those suffering was to attempt this task. We hope that the money we raise will contribute to the incredible work Cancer Research UK do in the hope of beating this disease.

The climb that we have selected to attempt the Everest Challenge is "The Tumble", a 3 mile climb out of Abergavenny up to the top of "The Blorenge" with an average grade of 8%. The total elevation gain for the climb is 1,265ft which means that we will need to complete the climb 23 times to make the height of Everest. The total ride distance will be in the region of  141 miles.

Below I have linked to the Strava segment for the climb and the rules that we have to comply with for our attempt to be valid:

We are expecting the ride to take anywhere between 16-20 hours so it is quite a mammoth task. On the 29th April 2017 we will be climbing onto our bikes at around 4AM so we can do most of the riding in daylight. If you fancy coming along and giving the climb a go yourself then please do! The more the merrier!!!

Thanks for reading. We will keep you updated with pictures and videos as the day progresses.
