Cardiff Half Marathon · 26 October 2017

Every day in the UK, another 240 people wake up to the catastrophic impact of a stroke. The Stroke Association is the leading charity in the UK providing lifelong support for all stroke survivors and their families.

Story

I will be running in 12 events over the next 12 months with the last event being the Dublin Marathon in October 2017.

Why?

Three members of my family have suffered strokes.

Shortly after retiring, my Great-Uncle suffered a stroke. He spent the next 7 years in a nursing home unable to walk or communicate prior to his death in 2004.

In 2014, my father in law, again in the early days of his retirement suffered a severe stroke leaving him hospitalised for several months initially unable to walk and without the use of his left arm. He has since returned home and after a period of time has managed to start driving again which is a great achievement.

In late 2014 my Nan suffered a massive stroke leaving her in a coma which sadly she never came out of and passed away 2 weeks later.

So much more needs to be done to highlight the amazing work that the Stroke Association is doing to raise awareness of strokes, from prevention through to recovery and support.

I want to try and raise as much money as possible to ensure that this continues. Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
