Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page in support of Migraine Action.
I have many reasons for wanting to support and raise awareness for migraine. In 2015 my daughter Olivia and her future husband Jeri had started testing for food intolerance, I couldn’t understand as both of them are fit and healthy and have been travelling around the globe. Jeri and his mother have suffered with migraine for many years and gave me some information on the suffering and symptoms associated with this life changing disability.
I found myself talking to friends and customers (my occupation, is a hard surface technician, or more commonly known as your friendly window cleaner) and had not realised just how many people have different forms of migraine - quite a few of
my customers have migraine attacks in one form or another. This year I attended a presentation day in Exeter, by Migraine Action, which open my eyes, and gave me an in-depth over view of what people have to deal with this on a day to day basis. I count myself extremely fortunate that I do not suffer with migraines, but have seen how it leaves people shattered, in pain and worst of all misunderstood by those around them.
Olivia, Jeri and his mother have made huge steps in managing their attacks, and will remain positive with help from organisations like Migraine Action based in the UK.
My commitment to raising awareness here in the southwest is not only because of family, friends and customers, but the simple fact, that not enough people are talking about migraine. As so often happens, life begins at Exeter. At the seminar I attended many of the Doctors had traveled from London and the north to give up their time free to help raise awareness of migraine and speak on everything from diagnosis to emerging therapies.
Like throwing a stone into a pond, it’s up to everyone to spread the word. Migraine Action are ready, willing and able to point anyone seeking help and information whether for themselves or someone within their circle of family, friends and
work colleagues. Why suffer in silence, help is at hand.
The Truro half marathon takes places on Sunday 18th of September; it is not my first half marathon and no doubt it will not be my last. Motivation to get out of bed on a wet Sunday morning, to get my training miles in has never been so
high, and if it sparks one person to help raise awareness then my job will be done for now.
I would like to take this opportunity to say a very special thank you to Rebekah Aitchison, at head office who has given me so much help in setting up sponsorship, press coverage and just general being on the end of the computer. Keep up the great
work.
