Story
Hello! Thank you for giving into my badgering and visiting my page.
I think this is a midlife crisis... but instead of buying a red convertible I'm going to try and cycle from Darlington to St Albans, between sunrise and sunset, on the longest day of the year. We will set off from Darlington at 4:30am, then it's non-stop to get home before the sun sets at 9:25pm, finishing at the Clock Tower in St Albans town centre.
It's around 260 miles, (exact route TBC), we will have 17 hours of daylight, so will need to average over 15mph. That's including stopping to drink, eat & wee. So, it's going to be hard work, but that's the point!
Those of you that know me will know my passion is wildlife, last time I was riding around the lake district for hedgehogs, and this time I'll be raising money for the Herts & Middlesex Wildlife Trust. Conservation isn't a far away problem, it's not just big cats and polar bears. If we can all make our local areas a bit greener, then we can change the world.
I won't be doing it alone, my partner in crime is Christian, who is riding for his mum, she is currently battling ME, his fundraising page is here - www.justgiving.com/fundraising/christian-mathiesen2
Thanks for reading, and wish me luck!
Herts & Middlesex Wildlife Trust is a local conservation charity working to protect wildlife and help people connect with nature. We believe that wildlife should have space to thrive alongside our everyday lives and that everyone benefits from having access to nature. By working alongside our communities, we help people learn about the wildlife on their doorstep and how they can take practical action to protect it. We work collaboratively with individuals and organisations to create a sustainable wilder future.
