18 months ago my Mum was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and at that time I had no idea of how awful this cruel disease is, both to the person who has it and their loved ones. Just under a year ago Mum was living alone, pretty much independently, with family helping with tasks such as shopping and cleaning. Now Mum is in a home, in her own world. I take some comfort in knowing that she seems to recognise me, even if she doesn’t know who I am.  Some days we visit and she’s happy, loving…my Mum. Other days she can be aggressive and abusive towards us which is so hard and has meant we can no longer take her grandchildren to see her. We grieve the loss of who our Mum was, even though physically she’s still here💜
