Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page
My beautiful wife Ellie was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease in 2010 and passed away just 18 months later, in May 2012. The charity MND Scotland helped me care for her through that terrible illness, which to date has no known cause or cure. Shortly after her death I became a trustee of the charity, which continues to provide invaluable care and support to MND sufferers and their families, and to promote research into the causes and treatment. That work costs a lot, and the organisation desperately needs your help to maintain its work.
My first intro to major fund-raising for MND Scotland was with my lovely daughter Beccy, who in 2013 completed "Becs Big Bike Ride" (www.becsbigbikeride.com). She rode over 2500 miles around UK in just 28 days. What an achievement that was, and it inspired me to take on a challenge of my own - Mt Kilimanjaro, which I climbed in 2015 at the grand age of 71, in association with a wonderful group of 27 friends.
And we all did it to raise funds for MND Scotland.
So this year, we are taking on Machu Picchu in Peru - an 11 day trek from the Andean foothills into the Salkantay High Mountain Pass and along the Inca Trail. Whilst not as high a climb as Kili, it's more gruelling in other ways, and one heck of a challenge for me at the age of 73.
Please give whatever you can to support this incredibly worthwhile cause, so close to all our hearts.
