Story

Almost 3 years ago, I was diagnosed with bilateral breast cancer. Those of you that know my story and have read my blogs know that it was a shock and it was hard but 2 surgeries, 6 rounds of chemo, 3 weeks of radiotherapy, 18 months of herceptin injections and halfway through my tamoxifen, I am doing well. Life is different but life is good.

There were key factors in my recovery: 1. My faith that God had it all in hand, 2. The incredible support and prayers of family and friends all over the world and 3. The wonderful work of the NHS and Clatterbridge Cancer Centre.

Clatterbridge Cancer Centre is based in Bebington, Wirrall just outside of Liverpool for those unfamiliar with English geography. It has satellites throughout the Northwest, providing first rate, local care for all cancer sufferers of all ages. They also take part in research and provide holistic care. The treatment they provide, the professionalism of their medical staff, and the care of their volunteers equals that of any private health care provider and we want to see that care continue.

I had the privilege of being treated at 3 of their centres-Chemo at the Linda McCartney Unit in Liverpool, radiotherapy at the main centre in Bebington and herceptin at our local Halton General Hospital. The warmth of staff and expertise were equal in all three.

Three years on, I am still battling with my body to find my new norm, to heal physically and emotionally and this challenge is a part of my healing, but also my chance to say thank you. I am so excited that my brother, Mark, my sister, Barb, her husband, Mark and my niece, Karlye are joining me from the USA for this challenge!  It involves climbing Ben Nevis in Scotland, Scalfell Pike in England and Mount Snowdon in Wales, the 3 highes peaks in the UK on three consecutive days. We are all at the far end of middle age, apart from marathon runner Karlye, so this is going to be a real physical challenge, but Clatterbridge is worth it!

Please consider donating to this cause so that we can insure that others have the same incredible care that I had at no cost to themselves. Clatterbridge relies on NHS funding and donations to provide the world class level of care that they do. Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page and reading my story-and now the blurb-
