We are the largest charity dedicated to kidney research in the UK. Kidney disease ruins and destroys lives. Treatments are gruelling, relentless. There is no cure. We say this isn't good enough. We will transform kidney health. Kidney disease ends here.

Story

In October an architect, an air traffic controller & an IT manager are going to raft over 30km down the Zambezi River through Zambia & Zimbabwe, along some of the biggest & fastest waters with the highest concentration of Grade 5 White Water Rapids in the world..... What could possibly go wrong!!!

Why???

To raise awareness of Kidney Disease and the amazing work that Kidney Research UK do for those who suffer from this incurable illness.

3,342 kidney transplants take place every year in the UK, but over 5,189 people are still waiting and 7 more people are added to the list EVERY DAY

5 people a week DIE on the transplant register...

We know at first hand the devastating effect this disease has on peoples lives. Not only their own, but also the people around them.

Mark's wife Rachael has been in final stage renal failure for nearly three  years and been on Kidney Dialysis for nearly as long. She is on the transplant register and we are hoping that this year that  the transplant will happen and her life can begin to return to an element of normality.

To help raise funds to help the research into this disease we are taking on this challenge to raise as much money as possible for Kidney Research UK.

Any donations you can make will all help this great cause and even if you can't donate, please just take 2 minutes of your time to do something for free.

That in its self is an amazing gift!

UPDATE:

Then at 3am on Friday 3rd august  everything changed…. We got
the call all transplant patients dream of and just after 4.15am we were at Addenbrookes in Cambridge awaiting a donor kidney. We got the go ahead at 1pm and within 20 mins Rachael was in theatre having a Kidney Transplant!

Rachael was home on day 6 and so far all looks good!

None of this would have been possible without the amazing
NHS staff, the donor register and the incredible research by Kidney Research UK to enable transplants to happen.

So all of a sudden the desire to raise money and get more
donor registered people is even more important to me as they have literally saved my wife’s life.

If you can help us smash our fundraising target it would be
amazing, but even just signing up for the donor register is just as fantastic.
We know of over 20 people since Friday who have signed up off the back of just Rachael’s story……  that’s 140 people who could potentially have life saving operations… each donor can potentially save the lives of 7 other people!!!
