Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I have decided I would like to do a charity 10 mile bike ride for Neo natal intensive care unit at the William Harvey Hospital. This is a charity close to me as my little brother Reggi was born in William Harvey Hospital premature and needing lots of extra care for the first few days of his life.

This all started when mummy's waters ruptured at 24 weeks pregnant. This made us have lots of hospital visits and extra care and for mummy and Reggi as there was a high risk of us losing Reggi due to the risk of infections or him being born too early. The William Harvey carried out lots of scans, consultant appointments, monitoring, blood tests all to make sure he was safe in my mummy's belly. The consultants aim was to get Reggi to a safer stage of 28 weeks. Mummy managed 34 weeks when we were then told her placenta was abrupting and therefore it was no longer safer for him to be inside mummy's belly.

He was born on 27th January 2017 at 3:50pm. Everything was great and he weighed 6lb 90z (pretty big baby for a premmy) around an hour after he was born I got to cuddle my little brother for the first time when he was taken for his regular antibiotics. He then took a turn for the worst and started to struggle with breathing. The Neo Natal consultant was called to take a look at him and he was getting poorly very quickly and struggling more and more. After realising that he wasn't stabilising they had to rush him to Neo Natal intensive care unit where he could be looked after better. He had to have lots of tubes and wires on him to keep him alive. Mummy and daddy stayed with him to look after him and Nana took me home. The next day he was doing a little better but we still couldn't cuddle him but mummy was allowed for a bit to keep him warm and to make him happy so he could hear her heartbeat as he was missing her. That evening Reggi decided he had had enough of all the tubes and he wanted another cuddle from his big brother and he over night came off the tubes and had his first feed. He then went into a open cot in the SCBU unit which meant we could touch him and look at him properly. The nurses were very friendly and loved Reggi and looked after him and made him warm and comfortable so he was never alone in there when Mummy and Daddy had to leave to go the ward to get some sleep. The day after he improved even more and the doctors and consultants were so surprised and proud of him they decided he could come out of SCBU unit and come back on the Folkestone ward with mummy and Daddy and where we could all cuddle him properly. He then improved so much he was allowed to come home the next day after that and is now 5 months old and is absolutely MASSIVE
