Adrian's LondonRide 100

Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100 2017 · 30 July 2017 ·
As many of you will know, last year my wife, Amy, developed pre-eclampsia and was very ill for a couple of weeks. As a consequence of the pre-eclampsia, our son Jamie was born 12 weeks prematurely, he was very poorly and as you can see he required a lot of medical support.
Jamie spent 11 weeks in the University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire, including three weeks in intensive care. He received the most amazing care and Amy and I were supported all the way by some wonderful people, including volunteers from Bliss who provided help, advice, and a shoulder on which to cry.
Spending the time on a neonatal intensive care unit, a neonatal high dependency unit and a special care baby unit meant we were exposed to a wide range of emotions, and witnessed first-hand the rawness of joy and despair. Speaking with the medical staff at UHCW and the Bliss volunteers opened our eyes to the frequency of prematurity and the consequences for many of the babies and their families.
We want to do as much as possible to support future research into prematurity, its causes, and possible treatments. We are also keen to help Bliss provide volunteers to support the families of premature and sick babies.
Jamie is now a happy little one year old, but like the parents of many premature babies we wait to see how he will progress. In the meantime we are looking to raise as much money as possible to help future parents of premature and sick babies.
