Hever Half Marathon · 23 September 2018

Inspired by the former Wales striker’s own battle against testicular cancer, the John Hartson Foundation aims to increase awareness of the disease and raise much-needed funds to support those whose lives are affected by cancer. Men, women, children and families. So please, give what you can afford.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Having suffered pain for several months, in February 2017 I was diagnosed with testicular cancer. My diagnosis was that the cancer was spreading quickly, and I was given nine weeks of intense chemotherapy treatment.

Having received this news I got a call from John Hartson - and it was an invaluable one. He talked me through what to expect and the chat we had was one of the main factors in me battling through my treatment.

News of our conversation went viral and I was overwhelmed with the support and care I received from football clubs around the country and the world - I undertook radio and TV interviews to try to help raise awareness, and collected signed shirts and football items that the charity auctioned off in November 2017 - raising over £3000 in the process.

John's phone call to me helped me raise money and awareness, but more importantly helped me get through the toughest time of my life - I lost my hair and a big chunk of my life, and now I want to give something back to the charity for helping me through that time.

I have been all clear for a year now (as of April 2018) and setting myself this challenge to complete represents a big milestone in my life and would complete a remarkable 18 months since being given the worst news someone can ever hear.

Anything you can give to the charity and to help sponsor me for this event is greatly appreciated - I want to raise money to continue to raise funds for those affected by this horrible disease, and I can never thank John and the charity enough.

Thank you,

Alex Stedman.
