Story
In honour of everyone who has been affected by cancer, I am taking on this challenging trek to the mysterious lost city of the Incas, ‘Machu Picchu’ in Peru. In doing so, I will raise vital funds to support cancer research in Welsh hospitals and universities. More research results in more leads for new drugs which will make a huge difference to lots of people’s lives.
This challenge is going to be tough; trekking through sub-tropical jungle and high-altitude cloud-forests, with basic camping in remote areas not accessed any other way. The trek itself is over a period of 4 days, but we need time to get used to the high altitude, as the air gets thinner the higher you go!
• Day 4 - The challenge begins when we leave the starting point and trek to Wayllabamba (approx. 11km);
• Day 5 - We’ll walk the first mountain pass called ‘Dead Woman’s Pass’ (approx. 11km);
• Day 6 – We’ll conquer the remaining two mountain passes today (approx. 16km);
• Day 7 – An early start to reach the Sungate for the best view of Machu Picchu, followed by descending into the mystical ruined city (approx. 6km).
I will be raising money at various events over the coming months and I hope you will support me by donating as much money as you can to this excellent charity - Cancer Research Wales.
Thanks so much xx
