Story
Make-A-Wish UK grant magical wishes to enrich the lives of children and young people fighting life-threatening conditions. Granting their wish provides seriously ill children with hope for the future, strength to cope and resilience to fight their condition. They’re given quality time away from the daily realities of living with their condition and given the chance to make magical memories they can treasure forever – whatever their future may hold. We want to transform the lives of 1,000 children this year by granting their One True Wish!
The screwball rally is a 5 day European road trip with 80 other like minded teams which incorporates seven European countries, Scotland, England, France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany and Switzerland
David McNamara, Alistair Fulton, Sandy Phillips and Gordon Reid are off on the Screwball Rally on September 19th 2019 in their eye catching blue Make A Wish camper van
The four volunteers - The Scots on Screwball (SOS Screwball) are great friends and all rent units just off the Galston road in Hurlford. The rally will take in seven European countries as above Calais-strasbourg, France-bern, Switzerland-Morvan, France-Luxembourg-calais. Covering a distance of approx 2280 miles over 5 days - all in a car with no more than £750
The team took part in the event last year 2018 and successfully raised over £2000 for the children's ward at Crosshouse Hospital. This year the team have affiliated themselves to Make - A - Wish UK which was formed to grant life - changing wishes to children with critical illnesses in the UK.
The team have been given a Nissan Elgrand from Direct Campers and have since spent time and money on getting it roadworthy again.
It has had a fetching blue paint job with the Make - A - Wish logo and stars. It hasn't been driven since last year's journey, but has been recommissioned and is now ready for the road.
They will be taking a tool kit with them just in case, and between the four of them, barring anything drastic, they should be okay to keep the motor on the road.
The Screwball Rally is not a race - the competitors are encouraged instead to raise as much money for their chosen charities as possible.
The four local guys have chosen to raise cash for the Make - A - Wish charity and one hundred percent of the money raised will go to the charity. All of the expenses are paid for by the team themselves.
Any donation will be appreciated, no matter how much, so if you can, please help the team to raise as much money as possible.
