amy ager is raising money for the Deaf Academy
Story
Those of you who know me will know that I am neither thrill seeking nor particularly brave - but I am getting (wildly!) out of my comfort zone to raise money and awareness for a cause I believe in and that has become close to my heart.....
On the 19th May I will be doing a tandem skydive from 15,000ft to raise money for the Exeter Royal Academy for Deaf Education.
In October last year I started working as a student support worker for the Deaf Academy. Apart from thoroughly enjoying my job working with the fantastic students and learning to sign I have met some truly amazing people.
The Academy is run as a charity and has been in Exeter for 190 years working to ensure deaf children are valued by themselves and by society, growing into confident well educated, independent young adults who are proud of their deaf identity and able to communicate in a hearing society. Ensuring they leave with good and appropriate employment and housing when the time is right.
In this current time of restructuring and uncertainty for the Academy I want to help raise whatever I can in order for all the good work to continue - for the students who work incredibly hard to reach their potential and for the teaching and care staff who work tirelessly to help them achieve it. And for all those behind the scenes who keep everything going.
