Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. I have been granted an incredible opportunity to make a real difference by working with VSO for 12 weeks in Nandi, Kenya on 4th October. This is a government-funded volunteer programme that works to fight poverty in various countries around the world.

Volunteer Services Overseas (VSO) is the leading world development NGO. VSO ICS is designed to bring about lasting change for poor communities, that have specifically requested their help. The 12 week project focuses on creating an empowered community able to actively advocate for rights of young people with disability. I will also be working closely with Community Empowerment for Deaf Inclusion, helping young people learn Kenyan Sign Language.

I have just finished my A-levels (English Language, Psychology & World History) at QES. I will be taking a gap year before studying International relations at Cardiff Uni. This will be a real challenge for me as I did not do DofE and am not made for UK sunny weather - never mind Kenya!

VSO ICS is a once in a lifetime opportunity. The first part of my challenge to raise £800 to enable the work to continue and to fund future volunteers on these amazing projects. These funds do not go to the cost of my trip but instead sent directly to the charity.

Among other things, I am organising a Comedy night in Kendal on Friday 13th July with my friend Emma who is going to Cambodia. You can find details on our Charity Comedy Night Facebook page. Tickets are available from Castle Stores kendal, and raffle tickets from Hansen's Ice-Cream Parlour.

Any contribution from you will make a real difference to the lives of people in developing countries, so please dig deep, or buy tickets for our Comedy Night. If your donation is £10 or more - just comment "Comedy" and you will also receive a ticket for the show.

Thanks for your support - Amy x
