I have been given the most amazing opportunity to run the London Marathon in 2023 , I am running for Alzheimers Research ,2 years ago my life partner Andy was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s, he was 40!

We had a wonderful life with our daughter Poppy Rose (5) and Oliver his step son (12).

Andy loved running, it was his passion, it got to the point that he would go out for a run but would forgot where he lived, so I decided to start running with him so that he could carry on for as long as possible. Sadly it was only a few months before he had to stop. I have carried on running for Andy, it make me feel close to him even though he isn’t with me.

Andy, has a rare Alzheimer’s that is a fast and progressive. I battled to get help from social services but funding was not in place for someone as young as Andy. I felt I was fighting a lonely battle daily. Eventually, it became to dangerous for Andrew to be at home, he couldn’t dress himself, boil a kettle or even follow simple tasks that we take for granted daily.

At 42, Andy moved into a care home, it was the hardest thing I have had to do but Andy loves it there and knowing that he is safe and happy helps me and the children carry on.

I am doing the London marathon for Alzheimer’s research, for Andy and others who have this horrendous disease. For all those families now and in the future who will have to go through the same battles as Andy and I have.
