Prostate Cancer UK has a simple ambition - to stop men dying from prostate cancer. Through shifting the science over the next 10 years to focus on radical improvements in diagnosis, treatment, prevention, and support, we will stop prostate cancer being a killer.

Story

Hello,

I my name is Billy, I'm a recovering alcoholic and this time last year I couldn't start the day or leave the house without drinking half a bottle of Vodka.  Let alone get up and participate in a 10 mile run.  Through help and support and by following a programme I have remained abstinent for 11 months.  I've been jogging to regain my fitness and when I heard about the Great South Run I knew it was the perfect opportunity to raise money and awareness around prostate cancer that claimed the life of Maurice Hartley, someone close to me.

Maurice is my best friend's father.  I knew him most of my life growing up.  I will always remember Maurice as a decent bloke, intelligent and talented with a good sense of humour.  He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who is missed by all that new him.
