Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

My name is Cariss and I'm 32 years old. I had brain surgery to remove a large tumour which was located on my right temporal lobe in June 2014. A biopsy was then performed and the results were devastating. I have been diagnosed with an incurable form of brain cancer.

The reason it is incurable is down to lack of funding towards research and ultimately a lack of knowledge around this type of cancer.

Until more is done, my cancer like so many other young adults and children's can only ever be 'managed', brain tumours the biggest cancer killer of adults under 40 and children. The Brain Tumour Charity is committed to changing these awful statistics, so that they can improve the outcomes for those diagnosed with a brain tumour. They do this in 3 ways: They fund research; to ultimately try and find a cure. But we all know this isn’t going to be found overnight and there are people that are living with a brain tumour right now like Myself, so they also provide a comprehensive Support and Information service, to help people cope day to day. Finally they raise awareness – of the impact of brain tumours and the need for more funding, but also of the signs and symptoms to look out for, in an effort to try and reduce diagnosis times and ensure treatment is provided sooner rather than later.
They are doing vital and fantastic work, but the reality is that they receive no government funding as a charity and rely 100% on voluntary donations and fundraising just like mine here. It costs £250 to fund a day of research into this killer and so without people like all of you, they simply wouldn’t be able to continue their fantastic work and people like me wouldn't be here to thank you.

I completed 6 weeks of radiotherapy over the summer in 2014  and then finished 6  months of chemotherapy which made me quite ill in the begining. These treatments might keep regrowth of the tumour under control but unfortunatley will not cure me of this cancer and they are aggressive and painful forms of treatment.

Whilst I am well enough to be able to take part in fundraising activities I plan to do as much as I can. I am supporting the Brain Tumour Charity because they have been incredibly supportive to me since my diagnosis and the information and advice they provide is invaluble.

Update  21/08/17

I recently received the results of my routine scan. My tumour is growing back. I am awaiting a date for surgery and will need subsequent chemo following this. I'm organising another comedy event on 09/09/17 and I intend to be well enough to host it

On 11/11/17 Dave Francis is organising Tour de Francis a 50-13 mile bike ride around the West Mids and he has requested that donations for that event are made through this page
