This is Bryan's story:

Dear Reader.

The 1st June 2017 is, and will continue to be, the worst day of my life. Even though the Consultant's suspicion was well known to me beforehand, to hear the diagnosis of Motor Neurone Disease , was, and still is difficult to comprehend.

Q:        "Why?"                     A: "We don't know"

Q:        "Prognosis?"           A: "We don't know. Every case is different"

It is my understanding that only one thing is certain. The condition is terminal! Because there is no other option the patient is herded into a palliative pen, from which there is only one very unpleasant way out.

This news, of course, also devastated my family and friends, particularly my wife Mandy and son Christopher. I couldn't wish for better, more supportive, positive & loving, wife, family and friends, and I  face the future safe in the knowledge that all will do what they can to support. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

As a schoolboy, and through my 20's and 30's I played rugby, soccer and golf. In my 40's I started road cycling, both socially and competitively, which unfortunately is no more. I completed stages of the Tour de France, cycled the length of France and circumnavigated Wales, both for charity. I founded the Tour of Pembrokeshire sportive, an annual fund raising event where every penny of surplus was donated to Wales Air Ambulance, (in excess of £40,000). Perhaps my greatest achievement was the completion of the Pembrokeshire Long Course Weekend as recently as 2015. A  2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike ride and a 26 mile marathon to complete the three day event. I would therefore regard myself as active, someone who also studied lifestyle and diet. Why? I still don't know, but it can strike anybody at any time.

I commenced my career with Ashmole and Co straight from the classroom, on the 1st August 1974. I qualified with the firm and accepted an offer of partnership from 1st May 2001. My one-stop career of thirty seven years ended with my retirement from the firm on 31st March 2011. I worked alongside fantastic partners, supported by fantastic staff. I was responsible for a fantastic portfolio of clients and made many fantastic friends. I thank you all.

Scientists have been trying to unlock the cause(s) for decades now. The only drug, which possibly extends life by three months, has been prescribed since 1995! At any time, there are approximately 5,000 sufferers in the UK, which although being a significant number, is small in comparison to say the number of cancer sufferers. Focus and the direction of funds is therefore a numbers game, hence the reason for my appeal.

My appeal is this - should you get the opportunity to help The Motor Neurone Disease Association, financially or otherwise, no matter how
great or small, I would encourage you to do so. I know that your help will be warmly received and WILL help make the world free of MND.

Regards and best wishes to you all.

Bryan
