Story
Last year it was with great sadness that we announced the passing of Robin Meakins, who tragically succumbed to liver cancer. At just 47 years old, Robin left behind his wife Stephanie and two children, Erin and Max.
Whilst his professional achievements and contributions are widely known, he is remembered by many for his fabulous sense of humour and passionate (and frequently outspoken) approach. The challenge now facing Robins’ family, and indeed the many families across the UK that continue to suffer at the hands of liver disease and liver cancer, will be an arduous uphill battle.
The team at Barton Willmore, now Stantec will in Robin’s memory take on their own uphill challenge (18 hills in all, befitting to Robin’s fondness for a round of golf). In doing so, they hope to raise awareness and much needed funds to support the study of liver disease and liver cancer such that in the future children like Erin and Max don’t need to lose their parents prematurely.
There are over 100 types of liver condition; some are rare and others can be prevented. 20% of the population is at risk of liver disease, there are many causes people don’t know about. The British Liver Trust provides advice and information to patients and families, campaigns and works with healthcare professionals to improve early diagnosis and patient care, raises awareness of how to look after your liver and supports research. Thank you for your support, and please don’t forget to Gift Aid your donation if you are a UK taxpayer.
The Welsh 3000s challenge is 'completed successfully' when you have been at the top of all 15 of the mountains over 3000ft in Wales within the space of 24 hours, without using any form of transport. Our planned route will see us tick off 18 summits and attain around 4000m of elevation gain over a distance clocking in at 50km.
