Marie Curie can get an extra 25p for every £1 you donate.

Hello everyone,

Thank you for visiting my Just Giving page.

March is usually a big fundraising month for Marie Curie with The Great Daffodil Appeal, however COVID 19 has hindered this. What usually would be a time for supporters to pull together is a time we are now being told to stay apart.

This year Marie Curie are holding a reflection day on March 23rd, which got me thinking! So after what has been a rubbish year for everyone and after some self reflection I decided I wanted to do something special, something selfless, something drastic, something to benefit others and with no benefit for me. So I decided I would shave my head to raise as much money as I possibly can. :)

Not only will I be raising money for a cause close to all our hearts, I will also be donating my hair to Little Princess Trust (once they can accept donations again)

I am sure everyone will agree that Marie Curie is a fantastic charity filled with so many unsung hero's.

Having seen first hand the work the nurses and staff do to care for not only the patients but their families at a crucial time in their lives. I couldn't think of a charity I would like to support more.

My place of work (Acorn Stairlifts) have supported Marie Curie for many years. During that time the staff have raised over £70,000 which is enough for only 3500 nursing hours. We also pledge to donate 5 stairlifts a month. We know that given the choice, most people would want to spend their last few days at home, surrounded by the people they love.

For those of you that don't know who Marie Curie are or what they do, here's a little background.

  • Marie Curie is the UK's leading end of life charity, here to support people through all aspects of dying, death and bereavement and to fight for a society where everyone gets to have the best experience possible at the end of their lives.
  • Marie Curie nurses, hospices and support line officers are on the front line to help people, along with their family and friends, through their final years, months, days and hours of life, whilst
their bereavement service is there for loved ones left behind.
  • Marie Curies researchers push to discover more about what makes a good end of life, and our policy experts and campaigners fight for a society where everyone gets to have the best experience possible at the end of their lives.
  • Last year, Marie Curie were able to care for over 60,000 people free of charge in their homes and at their hospices, whilst
    reaching over 2 million more.

I have set my target at £5000 before I will 'brave the shave' and this is why... Here is what the money will pay for:

  • £5000 provides 250 hours of Marie Curie nursing care, enabling people at the end of their lives to be cared for in the comfort of their own home, and their families and loved ones to be supported and crucially not alone.
  • £4000 – can pay for 10 people to stay in a Marie Curie hospice for 24 hours so they can receive the hands-on care they need in their final days
  • £3000- can pay for 176 Helper Volunteer visits, so a trained volunteer can provide someone living with a terminal illness with companionship and emotional support.
  • £2000 can pay for over 10 Marie Curie nursing night shifts, so someone with a terminal illness can be
looked after overnight in their home for a full 9 hours.
  • £1000 can pay for 31 calls to our Support Line, meaning someone in need can pick up the phone and receive practical information and emotional support.
  • £500 can pay to train a nurse or healthcare assistant for a year, so they have the knowledge and expertise to give quality care to those who need it.
  • £100 can pay for a bereavement counsellor to listen, soothe and support someone who’s grieving for 4 hours.
  • £20 pays for an hour of Marie Curie expert care and emotional support for someone living with a terminal illness.

Please dig deep and lets give this amazing charity the support it needs.

Thank you everyone
