Rosemere Cancer Foundation supports world-class care for the 70,000 people in Lancashire and South Cumbria currently living with cancer, by funding cutting-edge equipment, research, training, and patient welfare projects to make their cancer journey more effective, comfortable and stress-free.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. I am running my first ever Great North Run and first ever half marathon. I am doing this for Rosemere Cancer Foundation, a charity that supports improvements in cancer care for patients across Lancashire and South Cumbria.

I have chosen the Rosemere Cancer Foundation as this is a charity very close to my heart. 21 years ago the Rosemere Cancer Centre opened at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals and I started as a young enthusiastic staff nurse working on the Ribblesdale Oncology Ward from the day it opened. This led to a long and privileged career as a cancer nurse. I am fortunate to remain part of this fantastic team of Health Professionals as my current role is the Divisional Nursing Director for the Surgical Division, which includes the Rosemere Cancer Centre, the Ribblesdale Oncology Ward and other Specialist Surgical wards caring for cancer patients.

Last year The Rosemere Cancer Foundation launched its 20th Anniversary appeal and has since purchased a robotic surgical system to improve techniques for cancer surgery and supported the development of a state of the art cancer research facility. Now the charity is fundraising to redevelop the Ribblesdale Cancer Ward in order to provide more flexible space better suited to patients needs and to offer comfortable environments for relatives to stay close to their loved ones. My pledge is to do as much as I can to raise funds for this worthwhile cause.

Please donate as little or as much as you can to support this charity and also to keep me motivated on those long and lonely runs! Training and early morning alarm calls have been tough but I am determined that I will be in the best form possible to complete this goal for all the many cancer patients I have treated and cared for over the years  and in the knowledge that any money will be spent to improve the experience of patients in the future.

I really appreciate everyone's support XXXX
