Story

Sometimes you do not realise your world is about to change, whether it’s for better or worse.

On Father’s Day 2013 my life changed for the worse, my Dad was taken into hospital as he had swelling and fluid on the brain that required drainingthis was two weeks before I was due to be married .  The RVI in Newcastle did their very best for him, they drained the fluid but an infection set in, which returned numerous times, which  meant my Dad was unable to attend my wedding.
We spoke about cancelling but I was under strict instructions from my Dad to not be silly and to go ahead.  The next day we took photographs in and wedding cake which he thoroughly enjoyed.   We then found out that he had a brain tumour and was not well enough to transfer to another hospital for further treatment.   The time we had left with him could be days or a week, it turned out to be a matter of hours.  After 6 weeks in hospital on the 24th of July my Dad died with his family around him from a B cell lymphoma.
That was the time my world changed, within those 6 weeks I gained my prince and lost my king, it may sound corny but it’s true.
Dad had always had life insurance but due to a missed payment when he was in hospital it became invalid. The family then pulled together to pay for the funeral but as you can imagine it was a lot of money to pull out.  It is at this point that the RAF Benevolent fund stepped in to help.  Dad was in the RAF for 12 years working his way up the ranks and because of his ‘excellent’ service the charity provided us with comfort, support and £1200 towards his funeral.  My world was upside down at this point and without the help of the RAF Benevolent Fund I would still be paying the funeral bill.
During this time I was also lucky enough to have amazing support from my husband and friends. I couldn't do it with out them and they all know who they are!
It is because of their generosity I have organised a charity night on 8th of July with entertainment, raffles, tombola’s etc and signed up to take part in a 10000ft charity skydive on 22nd of July 2017 in order to help raise funds on their behalf and thank them for the amazing work they do, I would love for to be able to help another family in need.
All sponsorship will go directly to the charity. I would like to personally thank you for your support.
