On Sunday 14th October I am running the Royal Parks Half Marathon. I am running in aid of a brilliant charity which is incredibly close to my heart, Children’s Liver Disease Foundation (CLDF). Running 21km (or 13 miles) is a huge goal for me, having never been a runner, or the most athletic of girls. However anyone who knows me is aware that I relish a challenge, and am always active, doing something new.

I have suffered from a chronic liver condition since I was a few months old. The first 12 or so years of my life were not easy, but at the same time not the worst. Fortunately, recently I have been exceedingly lucky to be more stable, and I live a happy and healthy life. I want to make the most of this while I can, and push myself to be the fittest I can be, in order to make a difference to other children and families who are affected by childhood liver disease.

Every day, at least 2 children in the UK are diagnosed with a life-threatening liver disease. There are over 100 types of liver disease affecting babies, children and young people and for many the cause is unknown. There is no cure for these diseases.

CLDF is the only UK charity dedicated to fighting all childhood liver diseases. It provides a comprehensive information source on childhood liver disease for healthcare professionals and families. It offers a tailored support service for children and young people with liver disease and their families. Furthermore, CLDF does research into all aspects of childhood liver diseases.
