Story
I’m taking part in Football to Amsterdam, a two day pedal pilgrimage from Barnsley, Yorkshire to the Dutch capital backed by the EFL and the League Managers Association. I'll be there flying the flag for my beloved Liverpool FC!
This is a hugely important cause to me as, unfortunately, my family has been personally affected by this terrible disease. My Grandad was diagnosed with prostate cancer when I was a child, which led to him requiring a very serious and risky operation. Happily, we were exceptionally lucky and the cancerous cells were removed in their entirety, in a single operation. He has been the picture of health ever since! However, this was only possible due to cancer being diagnosed in its early stages, which in itself only occurred because my grandad was randomly selected for a screening at his GP. That piece of luck saved his life.
Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men. It’s a disease which kills one man every 45 minutes – that’s two men during a football
match. This is simply not acceptable but Prostate Cancer UK know that
with your help we can turn it around. Time is against us but now is the
time to take action, to make this a disease the next generation need not
fear.
With your help and donations, we can make it so that we never have to rely on sheer luck to beat this disease again. We can fund more screenings, and hopefully make them more available. If nothing else, we can raise awareness of how common prostate cancer really is and encourage people to check themselves regularly.
The strength required to complete this cycle is nothing compared to that which my Grandad and every other cancer sufferer must show every day. However, it is all I can do to help them win, and keep winning their battle with Prostate Cancer.
Thanks for reading, and please give what you can!
All my love,
Connor
