Story

I will be attempting to cycle over 450 miles from Lands End in Cornwall to Ness Point Lowestoft in Suffolk. This is a massive challenge where I will be travelling solo and unsupported. This means that I will be completing this challenge whilst carrying everything to sustain me. Fact: Lands End is the most westerly point in England and Ness Point is the most easterly point.

All the money raised will go to a local charity that is based in Colchester called Re-Cycle, not only do they recycle old bikes but they send them to some of the most deprived communities in Africa.  Having personally travelled to a variety of countries in Africa I recognise the massive difference a bike can make.

Re-Cycle (Bikes to Africa) receives used bikes and spare parts from the UK and ships them to rural communities in Africa. 649 million people live in rural communities in Africa, and many of these people must walk long distances to reach crucial services and social support networks. Across the UK, thousands of bikes are thrown away or lie unused in sheds and garages, whilst many people in Africa do not have access to any form of transport. The charity has sent over 100,000 bikes to Africa since being in operation.

I enjoy participating in endurance challenges but have never done anything like this and especially not on a second-hand bike that is worth £100. I am hoping that it will take me between 7-10 days to complete the challenge.

Remember challenges are good in life, it is only by experiencing a challenge that you truly grow, develop and identify what you are capable of.

We collect used bicycles in the UK and we ship them, in containers, to people who need them in Africa. Some people living in rural African communities walk miles everyday to reach water, school, work or healthcare. Bikes are a sustainable mode of transport and help change lives for many families.
