Story

Our world changed forever on January 1st 2019 when our Mum and much loved Nana was diagnosed with an incurable brain tumour called a glioblastoma, due to the location of the tumour it was also inoperable and life-limiting.

To say it came out of the blue is an understatement, Mum was a healthy 59 year old wife, mother and Nana looking forward to retirement. For 6 months our Mum battled this horrendous disease and fell to sleep on 2nd July 2019. It was the toughest, most heartbreaking time I think any of us have ever had to go through. To see someone you love so much go through such a horrendous ordeal is unimaginable.

As always our mum dealt with it in her stride, lots of humour, always a smile, reminding me and Sam to stay close ( my sister) and checking if we had eaten! She really was incredible, she is and will always be my absolute hero.

The care Mum received from The Arden Centre and Ward 35 (Oncology) was amazing, I honestly do not know how we would have coped without some of the wonderful Doctors, Nurses and Healthcare workers who not only cared for Mum but supported us too. One, in particular, was Mums specialist nurse Ian who went above and beyond. If we were ever worried we knew we could phone Ian for advice. During mums, many months on ward 35 Ian visited her every day, I know she was comforted by these visits. I would love to raise some money so that Oncology can continue the high standards of care for people suffering like our Mum with this horrible disease, it is a very scary time and this level of support is crucial for patients and their families.

So, I have been struggling lately with the thought of being without Mum for almost a year, and to say it has been a tough year is putting it lightly. It really is true that you don't know what you've got till its gone. I miss and think of her every day, she really was a brilliant Mum and such a special lady! We all feel a huge loss, life just isn't the same.

I need a focus so I have decided to challenge myself. I am going to run 2.7 miles (at least) every day from 2nd June to 2nd July. This may not sound a lot but trust me I will find this hard. Put music on and I could dance all day and night but I hate running so I thought this would be the best challenge for me.

Will it be easy? No
Will it be pretty? Hell no
If you have ever seen the film Run Fatboy Run and you might be close!

But I am determined, and if I can raise a little money for this personal challenge then all the better!

Thank you to everyone who has supported us all and if you can donate a little something, then that would be very much appreciated.

Debbie xx
