Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
As some of you may know I have type 1 Diabetes and have done since I was fifteen yrs old.
In the last 24 years I have seen a lot of changes in the treatment of Diabetes, and the treatments that are available now are streets ahead of what they were when I was first diagnosed. All these advancements would not be if it was not for the research that is carried out by such organisations as Diabetes UK. Research which is largely funded by charatable donations.
As a person with Diabetes myself I feel the need to give something back for all the help I have with treating my Diabetes and being able to live a "normal" life. And have been wondering how to do so.
So why not climb a Himalayan mountain? I have always wanted to. I feel the need to push myself and see if I work at altitude? And I want to raise money for a cause that is close to my heart.
So... On the 1st of September 2017 I intend to fly to India with a group who will be making an attempt to summit a mountain called Stok Kangri in the Indian Himmalayas.
Stok Kangri
(6,153 metres (20,187 ft)) is the highest mountain in the Stok Range of the Himalayas in the Ladakh region of northwest India. The peak is located in The Hemis National Park 12 km southwest of the trailhead at 3,610 metres (11,844 ft) in the village of Stok and around 15 km southwest of the Ladakhi capital of Leh
Despite its altitude, Stok Kangri is a popular Trekking Peak
and is often climbed as an initial non-technical foray into high
altitude mountaineering. However, Stok Kangri is very often
underestimated for its difficulty level and in particular the need to
acclimatise before and during the ascent.
If you can please sponsor me and donate to Diabetes Uk, I and so many others would be so gratefull. Who knows, perhaps one day there will be a cure?
