Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our page. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

The Improvement Team within East Lothian Council have decided to hike the East Lothian section of John Muir Way, 60km (37 miles) within 12 hours. Starting at 7:00am at Musselburgh Harbour and finishing at the Dunbear Sculpture in Dunbar by 7:00pm. Between the team we aim to walk 450km (278 miles). We are aiming to use this challenge to raise funds for the councils charity of the year - East Lothian Foodbank.

East Lothian Foodbank was set up in 2012 as a direct response to local need.  The local MP and church ministers were being appealed to by people who literally had no-one else to turn to.  It became apparent very quickly that this need was not going to be a temporary one and that there was a growing number of people experiencing severe food poverty.

Since opening their doors they’ve given out 16,593 food parcels containing 244,105 kg of donations and feeding 22,588
adults and 13,179 children. That’s over 326,750 meals!

In addition they’ve distributed 84,425 kg to other community projects including their Christmas jingle bags and holiday lunch clubs.

Compassion, care & dignity are at the heart of everything they do and we know they’ll always be there for anyone who needs their support, whilst working towards a future where emergency food isn’t needed at all.

They do all this with a volunteer Trustee board, a small staff team, a huge team of volunteers and a vast number of community supporters.
