Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

Emily's Story:

My Journey started back in October 2018, when I first started my Apprenticeship at Mencap. Now I feel like this is the time to give something back to Mencap as I want to say a massive thank you for their hard and continuous work that they do.

Also on Wednesday 1st May 2019, I done my first 5k Run at Victoria Park in the Evening and tried to attempt to do this within 1 hour. Done over 1 and half laps and completed this in 46 Minutes.

The reasons I want to do the 5k Jog and Walk at Hyde Park on the 15th June 2019 and at Greenwich Park on 6th July 2019 which both are on a Saturday is that I want to inspire colleagues, family and friends to give myself an challenge. That also visiting these parks are amazing and to be jogging and walking will be such an experience.

Also Mencap has helped me fulfil my dreams in to becoming an Apprentice and that it has changed my life around enormously.

Harry's story:

My journey was very unexpected whilst growing up with a learning disability , I never imagined to succeed having a job at Mencap which I am very proud and also lucky that I got myself a better education before hand .  As someone with a learning disability, I am a role model to others and media spokesperson at Mencap. I over the last 4 years I am proud to be the United Kingdom Representative on the European Platform Self Advocate(EPSA) on Inclusion Europe.

I am running both 10K at Hyde and Greenwich as I believe  building up fitness is priority and as someone with a learning disability I am looking to change public attitudes on how they think about learning disability and in the hope I can run the London Marathon 2020!

Lorainne’s Story

I work in the Events and Community team and my job is to send
out the Marathon vests to the runners. Call up the Virgin Money London Marathon
runners to say thank you for wanting to run for Mencap in the 2020 Virgin
London Marathon if they get a place in October. I write a Thank you cards to
the runners.

I am doing a 5k run at Hype Park and Greenwich to be more fit
and eat more healthy food and I have already lost a lot of weight. I would like
to challenge myself to do a 10km but at the moment I am not sure.  I am
also in the running group on a Wednesday from 12 till  12. 30am. We have
warm up first and then jog or running.
