We support people to help rebuild lives after stroke.

Story

At 21 years old my life changed forever. I couldnt walk or talk. My balance was so bad I was terrified i'd fall out of bed, couldnt watch the TV of high places, I couldnt cross a bridge and would be so frightened on a pontoon of falling in the water. That was 1998.

My basic recovery took about five years when during that time I was deeply lost. I decided to go back to University to get a degree (partly to prove my brain was still working, partly because I didnt know what to do as I couldnt return to my previous role having tried).

In 2008 I started to flourish when I started working for the Stroke Association. My role as communication support coordinator was to support people living with aphasia (communication disability) to have a better life. I didnt realise the role would help me so much as well. My confidence blossomed doing presentations, events and giving something back to individuals who's lives had been turned upside down.

In 2012 I completed my first triathlon. OK I looked like a shopping trolley with a wonkey wheel. Yes, of course I finished last. But I finished, my way and incredibly proud.

In 2014 I jumped of the side of a boat for the first time holding my little girls hand and felt euphoric for doing so. I pushed myself to do more so I also did "Go Ape" tree top adventure (the junior one!)

I have met so many amazingly inspirational people along my journey who continue to prove there is life after stroke. So I continue to push forward for continual improvement. Is it stroke recovery now or getting on with life? Well, both. I am under no illusion that I will always be a wonkey donkey but I have only just conquered my fear of hights and so I use the expression "try and you might" get better "dont and you wont".

So on to my next challenge, which to be fair is where you come in. I will do this jump, providing you support the fight for life after stroke.

I aim to raise £5000 and then I shall book my jump with Skyline.

I love life, I love me, and I would love your support.

Much Love

Faye
