Story
From 13th to 17th May, I'm joining the Spring Step Challenge (https://amrefuk.org/uk/en/support-us/fundraise/the-spring-step-challenge/).
The Challenge is part of Amref Health Africa's Health In Her Hands Appeal to raise funds to support remarkable women across Africa on the frontline of health change.
I'll be walking and cycling all week as I go about my work for Amref, covering distances inspired by the real daily journeys of healthworkers and patients in areas where Amref works. I'm taking on the challenge because everyone, everywhere, has the right to decent healthcare and Amref is helping to make that a reality across Africa, every day.
I've been CEO at Amref Health Africa UK for four years. I've seen for myself what an amazing impact Amref's work with communities, governments and frontline healthworkers has. I know that every day, Amref is helping people across Africa to save and change lives.
I've witnessed the change in a whole community's health that a trained nurse, midwife or community health worker can deliver, so I'll be walking and cycling to raise money to train and support even more remarkable, life-changing women.
Every penny really does count - but especially now: every donation towards Amref's Health In Her Hands appeal made before June 7th will be doubled by the UK government, so your donation will help twice as many healthworkers to provide life-saving care.
So a donation of £26.80 to train one healthworker in specialist skills to help save a life, becomes worth £53.60 and could train two healthworkers...
...Or a donation of £50 to fund a healthworker to visit schools to train children and staff on hygiene and handwashing, becomes worth £100 and could fund twice as many school visits...
...Or a donation of £78 to provide a specialist kit for a midwife becomes worth £156 and could buy kits for two midwifes.
If you're a UK Tax payer, please also tick the Gift Aid box - it won't cost you a penny and it will boost your donation by 25%!
A HUGE Thank You in advance for your generosity in helping Amref Health Africa put Health In Her Hands this spring.
