Story
I'm Gary, 42 and father of two boys. I love cycling and I love a challenge!
We've been lucky so far in our family, the commonly thought of big killer of cancer hasn't visited us thankfully. However, both of my Nans suffered with Dementia in their later lives. I can't imagine what it's like when live a confused life, not remembering a visit from your children ten minutes ago, or getting a phone call from your grandchildren yesterday. Or even being unable to recall if you've eaten or not today. Wondering where you are, where your late husband has gone and where your young family are. And then suddenly, there's some clarity; it's all clear and you wonder what on earth has happened. But only momentarily, before the curtain of confusion and isolation comes back around.
My Nanny Ell died from sustaining injuries in a fall at a nursing home. She'd more than likely forgotten that she was too frail to walk without a frame.
Please help me raise funds for Dementia Adventure. Even just a pound is very gratefully received!
Dementia Adventure is a multi-award winning charity with a simple mission: to enable people with dementia to get outdoors, connect with nature & retain a sense of adventure. Often a person with dementia finds that their life changes dramatically. They often feel that holidays, travel & outdoor activity are things that are no longer available to them. Yet there are huge benefits to keeping active & getting outdoors. DA specialises in supported holidays for people with dementia & their carers to enjoy together.
