Story
On Christmas Day of 2014, my dad died suddenly. He was suffering from Alzheimer's Disease.
Alzheimer's caused him to have a fall. He broke his hip, and never walked again. Immobile and unable to eat, he wasted away and died of complications.
I watched my dad deteriorate from a strong, charismatic and popular man into a frail and frightened empty shell. Alzheimer's and dementia rob victims of their dignity - it crushes the family as they watch their loved ones disappear - the lights are on, but nobody is home.
Alzheimer's attacks the brain's nerve cells, resulting in loss of memory and communication skills. 850,000 people live with dementia in the United Kingdom, and this number is rapidly rising. £20 could fund 1 hour of vital research - anything you can afford to give will be helping your family or someone you care about, in the future.
