Story

TeamGO4MO.

Two friends from Llandrindod and Newbridge On Wye take on their biggest physical challenge to date. Bob and Dai two ex local PE teachers are embarking on a physical challenge after Bob sadly losing his wife Maureen to cancer earlier this year and Dai overcoming a battle of his own, following his diagnosis with melanoma four years ago.

The dynamic Davies duo are currently training over a variety of distances and up to their seventy mile training milestone. Please give as much or as little as you can to give these two the support they need to keep those tyres moving.

Bob's Story

65 year old Robert Davies is cycling in memory of his lovely wife Maureen Davies.

Bob's wife Mo was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2005, which necessitated a full mastectomy and chemotherapy treatment at Royal Glamorgan hospital and Velindre cancer hospital.

Unfortunately following a ten year clear period for Mo, the cancer metastased to her spinal fluid. There followed a very tough 18 months of deteriorating health for Mo which included reduced mobility, loss of eye sight and hearing before she sadly lost her long battle on the 2nd February 2017 at St Michaels hospice, Hereford.

In Mo's days of need Macmillan were one of the support agencies who were on hand which helped her and the family through some very difficult times.

Dai's story

57 year old David Davies is also cycling in memory of Maureen Davies and recognition of the excellent work Macmillan provide in the local community and beyond.

In 2013 following a routine eye appointment Dai was rushed to Hereford hospital for further investigations and from there in just a few days diagnosed with a tumour in his left eye. Dai underwent a life saving operation at St.Paul's eye hospital Liverpool. During these few days Dai had to make some very difficult decisions one of which was the possibility of removing his left eye completely.

Over the period of six months Dai underwent many operations and treatments including proton beam therapy at Clatterbridge specialst cancer unit.

Dai is currently still undergoing six monthly checks.
