Story

I am 94 years oId and a D-Day Veteran.I am taking part in a special triathlon in support of local charity the Sheffield Royal Society for the Blind (SRSB). As part of the twopointsixchallenge on Sunday I will cycle 2.6 miles on my exercise bike, row 2.6 miles on my rowing machine and run 2.6 times round my garden raising funds for SRSB.

I am a client and  have been a volunteer for SRSB for over 15 years.I have taken part in a number of fundraising events including recently a glass and fire walk and the Great Yorkshire Run for SRSB.

SRSB has had to cancel a number of fundraising events and collections due to the Covid 19 virus causing an income shortfall. My heart goes out to local charities like SRSB who are not able to fundraise to support the great work they do,I understand their difficulties which is why I want to help.

Daily staff and volunteers at SRSB are doing essential shopping, collecting medical supplies, offering benefits advice and phoning clients to ensure they are okay and offer any help required. The challenges that blind and partially sighted people face on a day to day basis is bad enough, but with the added pressure of self-isolation, the closure of all forms of social interaction and difficulties with food supplies, life for SRSB clients is incredibly challenging right now so SRSB need to keep the services going.

I was just a teenager when I took part in D-Day the largest ever invasion which helped liberate Europe 75 years ago when thousands were killed. The war lasted 6 years this Coronavirus hopefully will last less than a year having said all that I prefer the war at least I could see the enemy.

Thank you for reading my story any donation you make will help SRSB to carry on providing their vital services.

 Thank you .
