Story

The Colonel’s fund needs you! From 16 July 2022 – 16 July 2023 (Grenadier Day to Grenadier Day) the Battalion and Nijmegen Company will embark on a series of events and gatherings to raise some much-needed funding for the Colonel’s fund. Each Company group will plan an event that is interesting and challenging but accessible to the wider Regimental Family. These events will reinvigorate the bonds of kinship of the wider Regimental family. The intent is to visit every association and make those introductions that will help begin incremental change to grow and maintain Grenadier bonds of kinship as well as raise money for The Colonels fund.

What can you do help? Join in! Under the umbrella name #yearofthegrenadier Regimental Headquarters will synchronise a communications plan on the Instagram and Facebook pages that will inform you of the events, routes and training regimes of the six Company events. You will be welcome to join in for a leg or indeed the whole thing if you are up to the challenge. Do not feel confined to these events. If you have an idea or would like to undertake a different challenge, then feel free! You can use our social media platforms to publicise your event. Every post will be linked to the new just giving page #YearoftheGrenadier.

Why now? The year ties in with the 10th anniversary of HERRICK 16 (our last Afghan tour) and when LCpl Ashworth VC was killed. It also aligns with the Battalion deployment to Op SHADER (Iraq). There have been dozens of operational injuries and deaths over the years in this theatre and, with this in mind, now seems the moment to begin a drive to raise the funds that may well provide life changing support to our serving personnel, wounded veterans and bereaved families.
