Story
"Woof, Woof – Could you listen to a little dog for a moment?
My name is Hanley Hound but my “friend beast” (that’s what
we call you humans) calls me The Legendary Hanley Hound.
I was born on the 18th August 2011 and was an
unwanted puppy just like many puppies that are born. I was very lucky to find a
"friend beast" that wanted to keep me even though I’m not a pure
breed but my friend beast wanted me.
My brothers and sisters were also very lucky and found their
forever homes – I miss them very much but I know they are very happy (like me).
From very young I became very very sick and still my friend
beast Emma looked after me and cared for me until I grew up big and strong. I think it was very expensive to make me better but I think she likes me cos she never
tried to get rid of me.
I know I’m only a hound beast (to you) but I have decided
that I want to help all sick friend beasts out there to tackle the problem of
Cancer. I’m only here because someone cared about me!
I don't know much about Cancer because I can't read very
well and don't really understand the sciency bit either but it seems to be something that makes so many
friend beasts very very sad every day.
Us hound beasts rely on our human friend beasts very much (snuggles,
belly rubs, ear tickles and did I mention belly rubs – sorry – my favourite).
We hate to see you unhappy. We can’t all tell you this but
to lose our own friend beast is heartbreaking. We’re supposed to go first. We
don’t want to leave or hurt you that’s just the way it works and we know that.
It's not often we (hound beasts) get to show our
appreciation for what you do for us so I thought this might help.
I am starting my training to climb Croagh Patrick, Westport, Co Mayo on the 8th
July for Cancer Research and would really like it if you would sponsor me.
I know I’m being selfish but if I can help our friend beasts
to beat this then we can be together for longer.
I only have small legs so as you can see from my picture I am walking a bit
further every day and even using weights and eating a healthy diet to make sure
that by the 8th of July I am in tip top hound beast condition to make my climb.
And don't worry I won't be going it alone. My friend beasts
Emma and Brian will be going with me and hopefully a few more friends will join
us too - maybe even you.
Thanks for listening to my story and lots of wags and
slobbers to you all. H."
