Story

On April 23rd 2017 we will be running the Virgin London Marathon together to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Hannah’s Story

In June 2009 I was diagnosed with Chronic Myeloid Leukaemia,
a rare blood cancer. At present, my condition doesn’t have a cure, but I control the cancer levels in my blood through daily chemotherapy in tablet form.Rare as a cancer itself, what is even rarer is that I was diagnosed at just 18 years old- the majority of CML patients are 55+ men.

When I received my diagnosis I was half way through my A-Levels exams. I realised cancer doesn’t wait for anyone & wasn’t going to wait for it to take hold on my life. Despite the concerns of others, I wasn’t going to give up, and I didn’t. I passed my A levels, gained my university place & got my degree.

However, I would not be where I am today without the
uncompromising and unconditional love & support of my close family and friends, the medical staff who treated me and of course Macmillan Cancer Support & UCLH.

With the support of these associations, I have received
invaluable treatment, help and support. I was understood as person as well as a patient which helped give me the strength to take my life back and put the control into my hands.

Up until this point I have dealt with my condition very
privately, I haven’t always been vocal or shared my story on social media- understandably this therefore may be a shock to many.

However, my motivation for taking part is the hope that the
revealing of my own story will raise the awareness & the funding for
Macmillan to keep providing their support to others battling cancer. By Race day, I will be in my 8th year of Cancer treatment.

I am running the London marathon WITH cancer, AGAINST cancer
for everybody who cannot do it for themselves. I will be running to fight for my life, for their lives and for all the lives that have been lost.

David’s Story

This year’s London Marathon will be my 5th Marathon
but by far the closest to my heart. I have raised money over the years for many different well deserving charities but running for Macmillan alongside Hannah will be my proudest. Cancer has affected me and my family for a number of years so to give back to all those that have helped is something I will take great pride and passion in.

Since Hannah and I got together her determination in life has amazed me. After she said she wanted to run the London Marathon I knew I wanted to be by her side through all the training and the 26.2 painful miles. So bring it on!

We would like to thank you in advance for your kind
donation.
