My name is Florentine Adam, I am 21 years old and study wood engineering in Germany.

In 2016, after I had finished my A-levels, I went to the UK for one year to volunteer at a place called Hollowford Centre. The Hollowford Centre is a residential outdoor education centre located in the heart of the Peak District. The centre it run by the Lindley Educational Trust with the aim to support young people in their personal development. During my time there I was given the opportunity to work with people from all sorts of backgrounds doing activities like hill walking, climbing, canoeing and so on. Many of the children, youngsters and young adults I worked with usually do not get the opportunity to participate in such activities.

The Lindley Educational Trust also runs youth clubs in two places. One of them in Sheffield which has just been launched. The youth club is based in Pitsmoor, a rather disadvantaged area. Young people from various different cultures and backgrounds take part in different activities as part of a youth club once a week. Furthermore, there are plans to take the participants to the outdoors to help them build resilience, learn about the countryside and become full members of the wider community. In the future Lindley would like to develop sport activities in the local area and take young people to the Cairngorms to learn winter skills.
During my time in Britain I met some of the youngsters involved in the other youth club run by the trust which is based in Ashton under Lyne. The youth club in Ashton was launched years ago and is well established now. It was great to see how young people take the chance to make fantastic experiences in the outdoors and how these experiences affect them in their personal development.

In March 2019 I went back to the Peak to visit my former colleagues and friends at Hollowford and in the local area. Sitting on the plane traveling to Manchester in less than three hours I came up with the idea that I might wanna try a rather slow way of traveling using my own strengths. I thought it might be a nice plan to start off by bike where I was raised in Northern Germany. And then cycle to my second home in Castleton in the Peak District. This is how I came up with the idea of my HOME2HOME bikeride which will take me through Netherlands to Hoek van Holland, to Harwich by ferry and then up north to the Peak.
I will set off 25th July 2019.

As the work of the Trust means a lot to me, I decided that I would like to raise money for the Pitsmoor Youthclub. The distance between my two homes is about 800km as the crow flys. So my goal is to raise at least 800 GBP to support the Pitsmoor Youth Club to be able to run activities, buy equipment and so on to finally enable young people to make experiences they otherwise wouldn’t be able to make.

Thank you for your support! Maybe we'll meet on the way ;) :D
