Story
Type-1 is an autoimmune condition with no known cure. It causes many other conditions due to the constant struggle of balancing sugar levels, and the bodies natural response to produce acids. Food is a factor in managing the condition, but unlike Type-2 diabetes, food is not the cause.
There have been no breakthroughs since insulin was discovered 100 years ago. So on the 4th of July ‘22, I’m going to attempt to push myself to the extreme, physically and mentally. I’m going to;
- Ride 400 Kilometres (250 miles)
- In under 36 hours (https://everesting.cc/10k-rules/)
- Over 8 mountains in the Alps, gaining 10’000m (32808 ft)
- Solo
- Whilst managing my Type-1
Any amount you can spare, however small will go a long way to helping research into this condition.

About me…………In 2018, totally out of the blue I was diagnosed with T1, my condition was so bad, my numbers off the charts, clinically dead I should have at the very least been in a coma, but remarkably I was still functioning normally. Since then like many others I’ve been trying to get my head around it, I have good and bad days. What’s kept me going is my wife and family first and foremost. Secondary to them is my passion for cycling and it was that which kept me alive, it’s also where this challenge originates……….
