Hugo runs Marathon Des Sables

Marathon Des Sables · 28 November 2017
Excellent people,
This November 2017, I’ll be competing in the infamous Marathon Des Sables. Supposedly the toughest race on earth. A gruelling 251km ultra-marathon race, the equivalent of approximately 6 regular marathons, in 6 days. This year will be the first time the challenge has been ran outside of Morocco, and will be happening in the notoriously dry Ica desert, in Peru.
Fought on awkward sand, tall dunes and wicked rocks, each competitor must carry all of their own food and kit for the whole week, whilst water is sadistically rationed by the organisers. If you end up on a hydration drip, you're even fined a 2 hour penalty. How kind.
Last year, I miraculously completed a full Ironman ultra-triathlon in
Lanzarote. So, this time round, thought I’d foolishly take on the next most brutal challenge to my body! Besides, what's a single man supposed to do with his free time (and energy, aye)...
With family being in Kenya, I’m proud to be running for an exceptional small charity, doing big things; Precious Sisters. They strive to get intelligent girls from shockingly impoverished backgrounds, through top local education, with the ambition of winning scholarships over to the US. They’ve had brilliant success to date, and are certainly creating real female leaders in Africa.
Please sponsor whatever you can! You can have the comfort of knowing that I'll most likely not be enjoying this experience one bit, but ALL of your $ will go directly into the charity.
