Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

In both 2015 and 2016 I competed in Ironman Wales - one of the toughest Ironman triathlons in the world.  Astonished, proud and bolstered by the totals which I was able to raise for good causes in both years I realised that it is possible for one ordinary bloke to make a big difference.

To try to raise a really significant amount of money for a charity as far reaching and important as Scope, I needed to do something which would get some attention.  Thus the idea of my "Highway to Hell" was born.

So here's the agenda:

2nd April 2017          The Greater Manchester Marathon

18th June 2017        The Lakesman Triathlon (Full Ironman)

21st August 2017     Marathon on a Treadmill (Mercedes, Derby)

10th Sept 2017         Ironman Wales 2017

1st October 2017      Lincoln Half Marathon 2017 (in costume)

21st October              Ultra-marathon on a Treadmill (Intu, Derby)

6th April 2018            The Marathon des Sables 2018

Believe it or not, my chosen events in 2017, including two full Ironman distance triathlons will be both an opportunity for me to test my ability to compete in my age group, in these monstrous events as well as vital training as I push myself to the next level and what will be, for me, a final frontier.  In endurance athletics - if you compare it to mountaineering - there are quite a few very tall mountains in the world which are very tough to climb.  Ironman is amongst them, but the Mount Everest of the endurance athletics world is the Marathon des Sables.

This legendary event takes place every year in the Moroccan Sahara.  There, I will deal with temperatures soaring up to 50 degrees Celsius as I run 150 miles over six torturous days, carrying all of my food and kit in an international field of several hundred other brave men and women.  This is the toughest foot race on earth.

I feel very honoured to be joining the Scope team for the MDS 2018.  Amongst that feeling of honour I feel scared but nonetheless as determined as ever to push the boundaries of how far my body will allow me to go.

Scope are a charity who are all about trying to support people who have all forms of disability, as well as their carers, with the primary aim of defeating the stigma which disability carries in society and helping people to live fruitful lives.  They help adults and children across all of our society and as well as re-building and building lives, they have saved countless lives too.  The work which Scope do is incredible, but it costs money.
