Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my Just Giving page. I am very fortunate to have healthy grown up children and have spent several years taking part in events ie:10ks, half marathons, abseiling, toughmudder events.. raising money for worthy charities relating to conditions that my family, friends and colleagues have been affected by. The London Marathon will be my biggest challenge but also another thing crossed off my bucket list! I applied to CLDF for a charity place as I can still recall a friends desperate and traumatic experience when their 3 year old became very unwell. Here is their story...
Lisa’s story.
Lisa was 3-years old when she picked up a virus which caused acute liver failure within a few weeks. First signs that she was unwell were terrible tummy pain and being unable to digest milk, and then she went yellow. Things deteriorated very quickly and before we knew it we were in Birmingham Children’s Hospital and she was on the emergency transplant list.Luckily thanks to a fantastic family who made the ultimate and brave decision to donate their loved ones organs Lisa was transplanted with a lobe of a male adult liver. Thankfully all went well and amazingly 17 days after transplant we were on our way home.At that time we still made weekly visits to outpatients clinics in Birmingham and 25-years later Lisa still has 6 monthly check ups.The pioneering treatment that Lisa had at that time was thanks to the skill of the doctors and surgeons at Birmingham Children’s Hospital but they are helped by research projects and support of the Children’s Liver Disease Foundation (CLDF)which is a unique national charity dedicated to taking action against the effects of all liver diseases of childhood. The Foundation through fundraising and donations is able to provide these services: * a comprehensive information hub(https://www.childliverdisease.org/Information) for healthcare professionals and the general public * a tailored support service (https://www.childliverdisease.org/What-we-do/Family-Services) for children, young people and young adults with liver disease and their families * the lead charity supporting medical research https://www.childliverdisease.org/Research) into all aspects of childhood liver diseases * the voice (https://www.childliverdisease.org/voice) for children, young people and young adults with a childhood liver disease and their families. With the support of CLDF amazing progress is continuing to be made in treatment and cure of many different types of liver disease enabling children to live long and fulfilled lives.
I am so excited to be offered a last minute place and now am asking all my lovely friends, family, colleagues, clients and all those fabulous charitable people to help me raise £2000 for CLDF.WISH ME LUCK!!!!
