Story

I have seen first hand what a difference The Sick Children's Trust home from home accommodation can make to a family when their child needs an operation miles from home.

My beautiful Niece Daisy was born in 2011 with a condition called hemimegalencephaly, a very rare brain condition causing her to suffer seizures. As a result Daisy has had to have numerous operations at Great Ormond Street and Newcastle's Royal Victoria Infirmary to disconnect parts of her brain to try and stop the seizures. My Brother in Law and his Wife, live in Billingham, Teeside so the costs of travel and staying close enough to the hospital, to be there for Daisy, has put a strain on both their finances and them. The Sick Children's trust was there however to help them out and provide that vital accommodation near to the hospital so they could be on hand whilst Daisy had her operations.

Daisy will need continued care and possibly further trips to the RVI but thankfully the Sick Children's Trust is there to support the family whilst Daisy gets the care she needs.

About the charity

The Sick Children’s Trust is the charity that gives families with a seriously ill child in hospital a comfortable place to stay and a friendly ear to listen in one of our ten ‘Homes from Home’. By providing families with somewhere to stay near their child they have one less thing to worry about.
