Earlier this year my family were given the devastating  news that Dad had Prostate Cancer.  Worse still was that due to late diagnosis the cancer has spread.  As Dad nears the end of his chemo treatment to try to get the cancer under control for the time being we thought raising money/awareness of the great work of Prostate Cancer UK would be a fitting way to round off the year.  

Prostate Cancer UK has a simple ambition – to stop men dying from prostate cancer. Through shifting the science over the next 10 years to focus on radical improvements in diagnosis, treatment, prevention, and support, they aim to stop prostate cancer being a killer.  On a personal level the charity's publications and website have been a great help to our family in understanding what's happening and getting through some of the technical jargon hospitals sometimes use. They also fund the local support group that Dad goes to on occasion.  It's great just to be able to speak to people who have been through similar situations and the group is always welcoming.

On a lighter note the idea for running dressed as a Pasty originally came about in 2016 when I was lucky enough to win the Rowes/Pirate FM 'Design a pasty' competition.  We joked at the time that if I won the competition I would have to combine my two great loves...pastys and running!! Rowes have been great in lending me the Pasty mascot for the big day so let's just hope I do it proud!!
