Story
As most of you know, the last year and a half have been a really challenging time for me. At times it has felt like one set back after another, and when I BROKE MY RIGHT HIP on the 29th July.... it really seemed like everything that could go wrong, had gone wrong!
However.... the love, the help and the support of family, friends and colleagues have kept me going through all of this and I have come out the other side fitter, happier, healthier and more productive!
And what better way to show this than my taking on a new challenge - the Londpn Marathon 2020
Kos Sehat has done such a great job on my hip that i'm running BETTER than I was pre-injury. I'll be posting my treadmill 10k times throughout the lead up to the Marathon in April, but 42 m 30 secs this morning was the best in 3 years....
And what a great opportunity to do something wothwhile for Parkinson's disease. Most of you know that PD has been by principal professional interest for thr last decade. It was the subject of my PhD and, having taken up a consultant post in Nottingham, myself Gill Sare and our superb PD team (Max K, Christine, Clair, Jenny, Amelia, Sarah - ably supported by Laura, Mark, Ravi and Max T) make delivering high quality care for population with PD our goal.
But there is so much that we still need to learn, so many questions that are unanswered, so many areas in which important work is needed to improve the lives of our patients and their families. Parkinson's UK has been the key voice for PWP for many years, and by funding and developing really important research and innovation into PD has been a major force for change and improvement in all areas of PD care.
Help me, help Parkinsons UK to help...clinician's like me to keep going with this really important work. Pledge what you can, gift aid if possible, and keep me motivated through the challenging months to come!
