Julie's Dorcas Ward Thank You Walk

My Dorcas Ward Thank You Walk · 12 February 2021
THE WALK GOES ON!!!! THE MONEY RAISING GOES ON!!!!
Just because I have hit my initial target in just 9 days, I cannot stop until I do the 70 miles to Guy's Hospital. Please do not stop supporting me by donating your hard earnt money!!!
Hi, here is a little about me for those of you who don't know me, those who do, can just have a laugh!!!
I am a 72 year old Great Grandmother which includes 13 grandchildren & one great grandson.
I have had more operations for various things than most people have had hot dinners. Parts of my body looks like a British Rail map but I am still here!!
I have managed to do a tandem parachute jump a few years ago, fly in a glider, an Auster and even a Tiger Moth where I did a loop the loop. I am always up for a challenge but this one is my biggest. This one is to LIVE!
4 months ago, I was diagnosed with lung cancer. In these desperate times I was obviously more than worried that this could be my time to be saying goodbye to the world.
Luckily, in those 4 months I have had numerous scans, biopsies, and finally 2 operations, which removed 2 separate tumours and half of my left lung 3 weeks ago.
This hopefully has given me anything up to 10 years more on this mortal coil.
I am now, thankfully, on the long, long road to recovery. In order that I can put my route to recovery to some use, plus as a motivation tool to myself, I have decided to walk the equivalent of walking the distance from my home in Newbury to Guy’s Hospital some 70 miles!!!
I am going to be doing this in my local park which has a path set out with distances in metres, so that I will know exactly what I have managed each day. No cheating will be allowed!!! :)
At this moment in time, I, who has never been a person for doing any exercise, can only manage 250 metres before running out of puff.
Since 70 miles is some 112,654 metres, it would take me some 450
days at 250 metres a day to reach my goal.
BUT I intend to do it quicker than that!!!
I intend to have completed the 70 miles by the end of 2021, some 320 days away!!!
Now this is where all you, my friends, and acquaintances, can help me raise money to say a massive thank you to my surgeon and all those who work on Dorcas Ward in Guy’s Hospital, London.
I know the money will end up going to the the Guy's & St Thomas' Charity but I also want to be able to present any cheque to those on Dorcas Ward, so that THEY will know it was raised in thanks to them!!
I have therefore set up this JustGiving page which I hope you will be able to spare a few pennies for. I am no Captain Tom, because no-one could ever emulate him plus I don't aim to be the female version either. I just want to say a massive thank you to those who have given me more than a chance to live longer & to adhere to my walk for a longer life.
Please, please help me hit my target!!! Please DON'T do it
anonymously, be proud & put your name to it as I would love to be able to thank you when we can actually meet up in the future.
Thanking you all in advance.
